Ali and Kory’s Montana destination wedding was a beautiful outdoor event with scenic views. The couple lived in Texas for several years, so they originally planned to have the wedding there in 2023. However, after a few months of planning, Ali and Kory decided they wanted to get married in their new home state of Montana.
Being that there aren’t many “warm” months in Montana, we chose mid-June for the outdoor wedding. That left us only three months to plan a wedding out of state from start to finish. While we LOVE to plan destination weddings, we had never been to Montana and the short planning window left us no time to scout out the location. That means we planned the entire wedding site unseen! June is the most popular wedding month in Montana, so we ran into challenges finding vendors that were still available. Thankfully, we love a good challenge and are super proud of how everything turned out!
The Montana destination wedding took place lakeside at Volunteer Park on Flathead Lake. Beautiful mountain backdrops adorned the pristine lake which the couple got married in front of. It rained five minutes before the start of the ceremony. The rain was actually beneficial because it cleared the park of all non-wedding guests and made for beautiful, cool weather. We had the park to ourselves the rest of the day which couldn’t have been more ideal.
For the reception, we brought in a tent and furniture from Empress Tents and Events. The bride’s favorite color is green which we wanted to incorporate while still keeping it bright and airy for a summer wedding. To do that, we chose moss green velvet linens from BBJ/La Tavola which added a touch of green without feeling too heavy.
After dinner, the wedding moved to a two hour sunset boat cruise around Flathead Lake. The groom’s dad drove Aly and Kory to the boat in his 1919 Model T. Guests got to enjoy spending time with the bride and groom plus beautiful views from the boat. Since no bouquets made it to the boat, we used a life vest for the “bouquet toss” off the top bow. To add another nautical touch, the groom wore a captain’s hat during garter toss. It was an amazing way to end this beautiful Montana destination wedding.
